THIS CHRISTMAS, DON'T SPEND IT ALL ...

Dec 4, '08 1:59 PM
for everyone

It’s that time of the year again.  A time when, like it or not, we will be confronted with some insistent demands and pleas to share, as if we had not been doing so the whole year round.  But never mind, ‘tis the season after all.  It is the season when it’s good for a kid to be a kid, and for the adults to reminisce and try to remember when they too were kids. It is a time of joy.  A good time to forget about all the cares, burdens and worries of the past year and just remember the good times, the joyful times we had and to appreciate all the blessings we received instead.  It is a time of hope.  A time to pray that the good Lord will continue to shower his graces and blessings for the coming year.  It is most of all a time for love, to share our blessings with the rest of the world, especially the children of the world.

Fortunately, unlike the Three Magi, we don’t have to go very far for our gift-giving ventures.  Right in our own neighborhood, for instance, we have our share of poor kids from our squatter area and other “informal settlers” strangely scattered all over our so-called “gated community.”  It gives our community a more “down-to-earth” look, a good mixture of prosperous-looking as well as ordinary, plain ordinary slipper-shod hoi polloi.  Unlike in the villages of the rich and famous where all you see are empty, tree-lined sidewalks and liveried domestics walking the dog.
So, every Christmastime for the last several years, we hold a “Children’s Christmas Party” at Mang Alex’s Auto Repair Shop along Riverside Drive, Provident Village, Marikina City.  All young children who have no real Christmas party to go to or to speak of are welcome here.  No formal invitations required.  All that’s necessary is that you are a kid or think like one and you want to party. There’s Christmas lights, party fare, ice cream and candies, toys, prizes, and some money – for everyone, almost.  There will usually be around 50-60 stray kids coming and going. It’s a good time for the adults to play and act like Santa. And every year it’s becoming more and more interesting, exciting, and expensive.
That’s where you can help and be a Santa.  Pls. send me your contributions on or before Dec. 20, 2008 via Western Union – Atty. JAMES D. LANSANG, Provident Village, Marikina City.

Tnx, Kuya TOM, I knew we could always count on the likes of You. Let's hope more will join this Christmas bandwagon.
